Laser engraving is a process of using a highly focused laser to impart a logo or image into a product. There are three main methods, each used in accordance with the product type to achieve the optimal outcome.
ENGRAVING: Is the process of etching into a solid material creating a depth and contrast with the surface, such as engraving a metal alloy key ring.
TEMPERING: Is the process of utilising more intense heat rather then etching depth to create a darker contrasting mark, such as engraving stainless steel pens.
Ablation: Is the process of removing a surface layer to expose a base metal underneath
Benefits of Laser Engraving a product
- Laser engraving has a higher perceived value
- Laser engraving is more subtle and stylish than other branding methods
- Laser engraving is more durable and long lasting compared to other branding methods such as pad printing
Something to note when laser engraving a product
Laser engraving is often very subtle on metal or stainless steel items. When laser engraving on these types of products you can elect to “oxidize” the laser engraved image ( in effect it “blackens” the area ) Below are pictures that demonstrate this;
